Week 2 Media
Media lesson 1
For the first lesson we were in one of the media rooms where we were split into groups, and was given a the script of a scene from the movie Cat in the Hat. We were told to record our voices whilst reading the script. Once we had the recording we exported it on to adobe audition where we edited it to how we wanted it and to fix any minor mistakes. We removed any pauses that were too long, and cut out a part that had a little laughter in. After we edited it we chose some background music that we thought would go well with the passage. We choose to have the theme song of the movie as the music but with no lyrics as it would clash with the other voices, so in the end we decided to have a karaoke version of a song from "The Jungle Book". To get this music we had to convert the song on "video converter" but the website wasn't letting us do it so we decided to just edit the voices themselves. We changed the voices to a high pitched child like voice as it is a children movie. One of the paragraphs was were the pet fish was talking so we used an underwater effect.
This is a brief we were given asking us to produce an advert for a Bic pen.
The very first task we were given was to split up into groups of 4, where each group had to come up with an advert idea. Once each group made their pitch to everyone, each group wrote down what pitch they liked the most on a piece of paper.
The group that got the most votes was group 2, who's idea was to have the setting in a classroom with one student with a Bic pen whilst all the other students were fainting every time he clicked a certain. Each colour was assigned to a person, and the lighting team would change the colour of the lights corresponding to the Bic pen that the actor clicked.
Once we had chosen the advert we decided roles,
I was floor manager- Made sure everything was how the director wanted it and what I thought would go well.
Heather was director- Decided everything and had things exactly how she envisioned.
Yasmine, Megan, Josh, Henry were all actors- They did the actions and gestures and was told what to do, when to do it.
Tom and David were on lighting- They positioned each light precisely and changed the colours corresponding to the clicked colour on the Bid pen.
Alex, Stephen, Yasper, Ian were on cameras- Each camera operator had one person to focus on based on what angle they were facing, the floor manager decided who was at the best angle for what actor. They also had to time everything perfectly, ensuring that they zoomed in or zoomed out exactly when needed.
Cyidne was on the auto cue- She had to write the script up onto the auto cue so the actors would know exactly when to do what.
Jade was monitoring the screens- She would switch between camera angles to which one she felt was best.
Improvements:
Before getting the final take, there was alot of mistakes where we would have to reshoot, this led us to running out of time and did not have time at the end to edit it ,so we were left with a really rough take which could have been improved by adding music or changing the camera angles.
Strengths:
Everyone took their role very seriously and was eager to get the perfect take.
