Evaluating Someone Else's Work

You are going to look at another person's work
1.Firstly use 5 words to describe that work
  • Close up shot
  • Natural form 
  • Shallow depth of field 
  • Peaceful
  • Icy


2. Now comment on the images form
This means looking at the formal elements of an artwork.
  • What is the medium of the work?
To take this picture the photographer told me she laid down on the floor and zoom in and manually focused the lens.

  • What kind of shapes or forms can you find?
There are a lot of jagged edges and round shapes. There is also a couple of curled leaves.


  • Which techniques have they used? She used a low aperture to get the background blurred out.
  • What kinds of textures can you see?
There are rough textures in the bigger dead leaves but a smoothed out edges on the smaller green leaves.

3. Finally consider the mood and meaning of the work

Mood means looking at how the artist has created a certain atmosphere or feeling.
  • How does the work make you feel?
This picture is calming and peaceful.

  • Why do you think you feel like this?
Because this picture is natural and untouched, nothing was put there on purpose.

  • Does the colour, texture, form or theme of the work affect your mood?
I think the dark edges of the picture and the lighten centre adds to the mood.

Multiplicity The aim of this exercise was to have one picture with the same person occurring in the same picture. Before we started we were told to be careful as if the lighting dramatically it would show up along with making sure the background didn't change so I had to be careful with cars in the background.  I started out by taking four digital pictures of my classmate posing in different positions each time. Once I did that I used photoshop to edit them making them all the same for example the exposure as some were darker than others. On photoshop i also stacked the pictures and created a mask layer for each one, this allowed me to use the erase tool and remove one of the Alex's and by pressing 'command I' it  removed everything on that layer besides what i rubbed out, that left two Alex's i then continued doing this for each one until all the photos of him were on one picture.

Graphic Design week 4 lesson 1

Lesson 1 Our first lesson in graphics was with Nicki Campbell. She taught  us about typography and how to use lines to help get the best results, there is a ascending line- where tall letters end. There was a descending line- where long letters would touch, and finally the X- height is the actual height of the letters. She then spoke to us about found typography and showed us the alphabet found in nature, we then had to go around our campus and find ABC's made in nature.

3D Analogue and Digital Photography

3D Analogue Photography These photos have been taken as a portrait and when printed out they have been scalped in certain places to revel another photo in the background. as well as having things placed on top such as card or leaves. I believe this allows people to see the subject's true emotions and brings them to the surface.  3D Digital Photography  These photos are 2D images that have been Photoshopped to look 3D. In order to create the effect that water or cows head is comming out of the frame. I enjoy this as it adds to a boring picture of the sea or a cow and makes people intrigued and want to know more.
